main power extension cord

Post by Brodgesell60335 »

Hi. Was thinking 30m of 12 gauge outdoor extension cord for thruster power. Aside from weight issue is there something I am missing? Some reason not to use it? Thanks.

I think the weight is the only reason no one uses them. It's going to be one heavy tether and not very flexible at that. Keep in mind not only do your thrusters have to move your Rov they have to be able to drag all that tether around too.

I stripped out two conductors from the outer insulation and used that on mine. It was cheaper than buying the wire seperately. You will find the diameter and weight to be an issue with the outer insulation.

Try 100% copper speaker wire. I used some 10 gauge stuff off of ebay and it was very flexible.
