arduboat control board

Post by captcrunch81 »

I am new to rov's but I have used this flight control board for quodcopers and rc planes and I was going to see if any of you guys have used one of these for a rov yet?

http://ardupilot.com/

the control board has some very cool auto pilot stuff and if you can find out a way to use a gps underwater, you can use google maps to set up a mission planner. this would be cool to map underwater sites and use the hold postion to keep it in one place as the current changes around your rov

does anyone know how to get a GPS to work underwater?

these control boards are pretty cheap from hobbyking

this is the one I have used before.

here are some of the cool features that would be cool for a rov's

Arduino Compatible
• pre-soldered and tested
• 3-axis gyro, accelerometer, magnetometer and high-performance barometer
• Built in 4 MP Dataflash chip for automatic data logging
• Honeywell HMC5883L-TR Digital compass
• Invensense's 6 DoF Accelerometer/Gyro MPU-6000
• Measurement Specialties MS5611-01BA03 Barometric pressure sensor.
• Atmel ATMEGA2560 and ATMEGA32U-2 (processing and USB function).
• Micro-USB

I'm not sure how well a gps signal will travel through water. However, I have also recently gotten into multirotors so i'm very interested.

yes, from what I know the GPS will not work underwater. but I have seen some scuba gps systems that to pull a little float around and they can calculate the float misalignment, this mite work well if you don't dive very deep. plus i was thinking if you did that you could use a wireless remote for your control as well

It says that it has a digital compass and I know a compass will work underwater. If you can't engineer a way for the GPS to work you can always use the compass to program search grids, if you needed.
