A 7 function manipulator...

Don't get excited, I haven't built one yet. But i'm playing around with a few ideas for one.
After seeing Steves 3D printed manipulator and ROV Reboot(all hail Steve Thone), i thought about making a whole arm. I
made a mock up out of foam to give me a starting point. I looked into different ways to power it and I'm thinking of going hydraulic.
I bought a ram, pump and valve from http://www.magomhrc.com/en/13-hydraulic-parts to play with.
If any of you have any ideas, post them.

It looks like you are the right track. Those RC hydraulic systems seem the way to go.

I am sure you already know about this one:

What do you expect this to cost?

The rams are about $55 and the valves range from $70 for one to $210 for a six way. Hopefully will only need one pump.
The arm itself shouldn't be much if it's printed. Of course I still have to buy a printer and learn how to design and use it.

Will you have to build a housing for the pump? I wish the stuff was cheaper but it is very specialized. Looks like it will be a $1000+ project but I guess that is cheap compared to commercial stuff!

The pump and valves will go in a wtc and run the hoses out to the arm. I'm still working on how to rotate the arm and claw and actuate the claw. I'm thinking maybe a flexable shaft, like a bicycle brake cable or Dremel flex shaft.
Magom sells the individual parts for the rams, so anyone with a lathe could make their own cylinders and shafts and just have to buy fittings. That would cut down the cost.

Do they have hydraulic rotators? I know there are pneumatic ones.

Finally got the pump and valve hooked up to the RC controller. Just have to connect the hoses and prime it and see how it works.

I got the Magom hydraulic kit hooked up to a Traxxas RC controller and installed it on a foam manipulator mock-up. I think this might work.

Wow, that looks great!
