Can I buy a hull, good for 100m depth ? Where from ?

Post by dtrip »

Hello,

I have spent the last weeks researching about ROVs.
It seems that I could do with controlling the motors via joysticks (Im a programmer and have already made a demo with an Arduino).
I can also do away with the thrusters, either using brushless motors or buying the T-100's.
My problem is that I do not know how to construct a hull. I decided to not build this myself, as it is
a crucial component and the one that most of all needs to be reliable.
What I need is a "cylinder" that is accessible inside and also provides a solution for holes for the cables.
As mentioned, target depth is about 100m.

For example, I have tried to find commercial camera housings, but have failed. Im sure I have seen those
before, so I will continue looking.

But in any case, can someone give me some hint about some makers of "hulls" ? Plexiglass camera housings, for example,
would be fine. Or it could be metal, with a "window" that screws on with bolts around it.

Thanks in advance,
Dimitris

Crustcrawler.com has one. It's somewhat expensive. But it works well so far.

Edit: also do a search for ikalite video camera housings on ebay and see if you can find any of the leftover larger format video camera housings that are too big for most video cameras these days, but perfect for RoV hull.

Really helpful, thanks.

The rustcrawler is exactly what I want but unfotunately too expensive,
however the ebay ikelite approach has some interesting housings and at good prices:
