10W led driver circuit

Post by theinlinaung »

Hi I am using 2 x 10 Watt leds in my ROV.
I need to build a driver for Led myself and I found a good guide here.
For my 10 W led, I calculate R2 is 0.5 Own. Input voltage is 12V.
Forward Voltage of Led : 9-11 V.
Forward Current : 1150 mA

From the guide.

The problem is I can't find 2N5088 (T1) and BUZ71 (Q1) in local electronic stores. I could find only 2N222, BC547 and IRF640N.
If I use these transistors instead of the ones in the guide, what changes do I have to make?

Hi,

The circuit you have drawn was one I had considered using until I found a really useful little board that did exactly what I wanted.

For my 10W LED driver I used the following board:
https://www.tindie.com/products/RobG/4- ... rectsearch

You get 4 boards and components for $7 which I felt was excellent value. The boards are well designed and have a pwm pin too!

I had to do a bit of work such as cut the board into 4 and then solder the surface mount devices. I hand soldered the first board, which worked OK but was fiddly. The 3 other boards were soldered one at a time using a frying pan on my cooker, carefully watching how the solder progressed. There are a number of youtube videos showing how to do that.

btw - I have no connection or financial interest in promoting this board.
