PPM control without an RC radio?
I've been reading how others have successfully used PPM from an RC radio down a single twisted pair to either a PPM to PWM converter or an RC receiver. I wondered if there might be some way of sending PPM directly from a laptop so I might have better control or more mixing options. I'm brand new to ...

Re: Laser Cut ROV Project
Very nice project, thank you for sharing. Two questions: which Sony camera did you decide to use? and won't the 19" widescreen stretch the NTSC signal from the camera to fit the screen? I was considering getting a bigger screen but didn't want to stretch the image to fit a HD widescreen.

Re: buy real tether?
Videoray saves the used tethers to donate to schools for their ROV MATE programs. You can buy tether by the foot in small quantities from "Outland Technologies" in Louisiana. It's not cheap but it's less than what the manufacturers typically charge.

Re: Anyone interested in a partially complete ROV kit?
Free? (: Ha! Nice try. :) I started adding up the costs on all the components and I stopped when I reached $1,500. I'm asking $300. Here's some photos of what's included in the box: http://imageshack.us/g/42/imgp2236q.jpg/ Too many parts and too little time to inventory everything (sorry) but here'...

Anyone interested in a partially complete ROV kit?
I've got a box full of parts that are left over from various ROV build projects. Almost all the parts are brand new, never used: small pelican case with faceplate and Bulgin connectors (for a control box), brushless motor controllers, USB extenders, USB digital compass, a couple micro video cameras,...

Re: Measuring tool
How 'bout if you put a laser measuring tool (like this one by Bosch: http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-GLR225-Lase ... B003NSBG5Y ) into a watertight case? Since this is for MATE the water clarity should be pretty good. Not sure how it will effect the laser, but it probably will work.

Re: Measuring tool
Generally speaking, for longer distances Sonar and transponders are the most commonly used method. Not nearly as accurate, but another method might be to keep track of how much tether is paid out. If you know what the current's speed and direction is, you could also use a "knotmeter" and t...
