MarkII
Here's a little info on a my recent ROV build, MarkII. This is my second design which was made partially by scrapping the original. My original goal was, and still is, to make it to 300ft, have movement, and see/record video. With MarkII I made improvement to overall weight, buoyancy, and just makin...

Re: my ROV
Looks Good! I'm after a similar goal, to see the lake bottom either without having to gear up for a SCUBA dive, or deeper than my current SCUBA cert allows. So I picked 300ft for my depth goal. Tell me more about this deep sea diver comm cable ;) That sounds like a nice idea, what do those usually h...

Pool testing my latest ROV
This is my second ROV which is similar to the original but mostly new. My goal with the redesign was to make it lighter with better buoyancy control, a little smarter and a little faster movement including dive/surface. Oh, and I stole someone else's music idea because it was perfect, if I remember ...

Re: Lake Mead, NV
I had an MR16 halogen lamp at one point and then switched to an LED version by Color Kinetics, I can't remember which one I had in at the time of this vid. But I'd guess thats still the halogen. Wait.. that was still the MR11 in a pond light fixture for that video. So now I'm working with a MR16 sty...

Re: Power Source Poll?
I went through the gamut of power ideas before settling on running 120VAC from topside to the ROV. Here's why, voltage drop. Everything on my ROV runs on 12VDC, draws about 12-15A and thats tough to push down a 300ft tether. So I run from 12VDC topside from lead acid (the batteries on my boat) to an...

Re: project enclosures?
Ya, I've been debating which devices I can live with permanently cover up. But, as it's an ever evolving design I know I'll want to get back into certain parts. I had thought about low temp hot glue, and then in the event of repair or change I could use an oven to melt the glue and retrieve things? ...

project enclosures?
I've been looking for new enclosure ideas for my ROV and haven't had much luck. Has anybody found a dealer for suitable submergible boxes? You know, to put all the electronics in? I've been using some IP67 rated boxes from Color Kinetics (Only because I work for them and they're available). These ar...

Re: Using magnetic drive pumps
I think this is an idea many of us have toyed with, and I think it would work great. We know the mechanical theory works, but as far as I know, no one has made or found parts to make it work. The trick is finding and/or machining the pieces to make it work. The tolerances of the spinning parts in re...

Hello from Las Vegas, NV USA
Hi everyone, been using this and other sites for inspiration for my ROV and just signed up to the forum. Love seeing others work and how we each go about making ROV's. While we're all pretty much after the same result, how we go about it can be very different. I'm personally making mind with depth a...
