Re: TigerShark ROV for exploring Puget Sound
Working on it now and I think everything is hooked up right. Can I just use the two A and B connections between the RS422s? I am under the assumption this is half duplex and comms only go one way.

Re: TigerShark ROV for exploring Puget Sound
Wow, just the information I needed! Thanks so much. I'll take a look and see if I can get it to work tonight. I am pretty good at mechanical and electrical but when it comes to programming not so good. I might be working with a local hardware developer soon who could make custom boards as well so if...

Re: TigerShark ROV for exploring Puget Sound
Just a quick update. I am having tons of trouble getting my 485 converters to work. I am using the wireless PS2 controller and can't figure out what pins to use for high and low to enable comms. It looks like the 485 examples have pin 13 but the PS2 is set on that right now. I am trying to use Nick ...

Re: Rov Reboot (3d Printed)
Looks great! I was going to make nice locking housings like that for the pump motors before I switched to brushless. You could do the acetone vapor treatment to smooth and harden them. It works pretty well. Your design would be good for STEM students to build too that have access to 3D printers.

Re: Over sized Thrusters
Bilge pump motor will be too weak for that. I suggest a Bluerobotics T200 or a seascooter modified for your needs.

Re: Affordable Syntactic Foam options or Macroballoon source
After checking the Bluerobotics site, it looks like it would cost at least $100 to do my float. Too much unless it would be full depth capable (about 1500 feet in my case with safety factor) My max operating depth will be 1000'.

Re: Affordable Syntactic Foam options or Macroballoon source
My fiberglass covered foam insulation board didn't make it to 65 feet without crushing quite a bit. Lots of small bubbles when I brought it back up and it was a lot heavier!

I can't get to the page from here so I'll check it later. General Plastics is local to me. Their R-3315 would be perfect as it is good to 1400' coated.

Re: Hello from Oregon
Welcome! Is 50 feet long enough off the coast there? I am on Puget Sound and am going to 100m for my standard tether. Don't forget you need some driving room as well as the depth.

Re: A PVC pipe ROV
These plugs that expand with a wing nut work pretty well to seal pipes: https://sites.google.com/site/mbbackus/robotics/nxtsub I think you might have issues with a thread in closure. Mine leaked pretty badly. You need something that actually seals better with pressure, threads prevent that unless it...
