Re: plenty of buoyancy

yes it had much more power, but the frame of the rov is the problem now it's too havy Looks like you're using Starboard for your frame's material. That's a nice material to work with (cuts / mills very nicely) but it's thicker than needed for the loads you'll encounter and, as someone else mentione...

Re: Bilge Pump Motors VS Props

I would put the fuse at the power source and then on any sensitive electronics. It's also not a good idea to put a fuse on a ground lead, that can be dangerous. I'd also wouldn't be surprised if your bilge pumps draw more than what they're rated for. Remember you replaced the centrifugal spin wheel ...

Re: plenty of buoyancy

my question it, if i mill some holes like in the pic can that help me Short answer: yes. Long answer: anything you can do to enhance the flow of water to and from the thruster prop will help to increase its effectiveness. Milling the motor housing a bit will help a bit. Cutting away (or drilling ho...

Re: plenty of buoyancy

looking good, how much gap is there betwen the motor body and ducts on you thrusters. adam That's the first thing I noticed also. The gap looks pretty small so could restrict water flow which would reduce the effectiveness of the thrusters. You can probably fix this pretty easily by boring large ho...

Re: current ROV project of Mine in vermont

I think you're going to have a problem thrusting a vehicle that size with bilge pump motors. The cheapest "store bought" thrusters I know of all sell for around $600 to $1000 each. These might work: http://www.crustcrawler.com/products/urov2/index.php The other option might be to build a s...

Re: current ROV project of Mine in vermont

Something is seriously wrong with that port side vertical thruster, the kort nozzle is way out of kilter and the thruster's position is out of whack also. I'm guessing those aren't the original thrusters and are just mock-ups, right? What's its size/scale, hard to tell from the photograph. What are ...

Re: on board transducer with topside display

Have you searched the Humminbird forums for info? You're not the first to think of this and a couple folks have already tried this with some success. As for extending the leads on the Lowrance transducer here's a thread on the topic: http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18295 and here's t...

Re: Single tether control ideas.. random thoughts

When you refer to the weight concerns, is that for topside handling or does the weight cause problems with operation? I've been assuming a bit of weight would make it more stable, albeit at the cost of high current requirements during motor operations. Light weight is certainly preferred once its o...

Re: Single tether control ideas.. random thoughts

Here are the two simplest / easiest / cheapest ways to do it with a thin tether in my opinion: 1. Coax - Send control via 2.4 Ghz RC transmitter/receiver and video via VHF. There's a thread on the yahoo groups with more detail on how to accomplish this. This is similar to how GNOM does it. 2. Cat5 -...

Re: Instrument Display

I'm using the "HMC6343" with my DragonOSD+. Be careful to use a "tilt compensated" compass. If it's not tilt compensated you may get erroneous readings if the ROV is not perfectly level.
