Re: Hello from Bournemouth in the UK

Another question.
How are you doing your video capture? Is it to a laptop?

Re: Hello from Bournemouth in the UK

So I'm sorry but I'm not quite clear here. How are you using the wifi? Is it for the camera or control or both? I see that your tether has what looks to be 12/2 for your power down to the ROV. Then I see another cable which I would guess is CAT5 for low voltage control. But I could be all wrong. Any...

Re: Hello from Bournemouth in the UK

Looks like you have been very successful so far. It blows me away that you have underwater audio that goes with your video. But why not? The great part about that is that you can hear thrusters. I'm guessing that the mic is built into your camera so it is an added feature and not by design. Still ve...

Re: Greetings from Maryland!

Rocky Gorge is very close. I have some fishing buddies that want me to scout for fish there with my ROV. It's funny that you bring it up because I have been going there and I agree. It would be a great place to practice. You are really going HiTech in comparison to me. And I bet a lot smaller. Can't...

Re: Greetings from Maryland!

Hey, I have been working on my ROV off and on for over a year. I moved to Bowie, Maryland from Tucson, AZ about two months ago. All I need to do at this point is get my video capture working and build my controller. Everything else is done and successfully tested. I have been looking for inspiration...

Re: Gui Pool fun =)

SORRY. I have been away for a long time. I have moved to the east coast. But to answer your question about my camera. The ROV is the moving platform and the camera is mounted to the frame of the ROV. The camera is a fishing camera with built in LED's.

Re: controlling the ROV

So far I have been successful with relays running my thrusters and lights. I run all of this off of one 12/2 power cord from the surface down to my relay box on board the ROV. I control the relays via CAT6E control cable. So the 12/2, CAT6E and the Video Cable make for a lightweight and fairly flexi...

On the bench.

Well it has been about a year to develop and build my ROV. Everything is now installed and has passed Bench Testing. So as soon as I build the Control Console it will be time for BETA Testing in the water. It has been a long road and about $500.00, but with the help from everyone, (THANKS EVERYONE) ...

Re: 12V speaker wire

I am currently using 12/2 stranded wire for a 100' tether with 3 thrusters and 60 watts of lighting. This gives me just a little bit of headroom. But at 53 cents per foot it gets expensive in comparrison to 14 or 16 gage. However running out of power at 100' is not what you want to have happen to yo...

Re: Power or Cat 5

Well maybe I am crazy. But this is what I am doing. I've been working with an Electrical Engineer friend of mine. He has convinced me that for what I am trying to do, I need to do the following. 1) Cat5E is going to be my control tether, to my onboard relays. 2) 12/2 is going to power my relays. Thi...
