Re: No Name ROV

bossfrog, I've seen endcaps that are much more rounded than others, but my local stores don't have them. Do you know of a source? About butting the tee against the endcap for added support, that's a good idea that has one problem: To be able to replace the motors, that part of the tee needs to be th...

Re: Hull\Frame connection question

thegadgetguy, No, not yet. The new design requires redoing the buoyancy calcs. Likely the hulls will get some minor length adjustments. But very soon . . . :) Ah! It just occurred to me maybe you were asking Byron that question . . . Oh well, you get my answer too!

Re: Hull\Frame connection question

I suggest you use real saddle tees. Look at entry in this thread titled "Attaching Struts to Hulls." It shows how to modify saddle tees so there is no penetration of the hull. It also lists a source for the saddle tees.

Re: No Name ROV

thegadgetguy asks, "How deep would you say this dome might be good for?" The short answer is I don't have the foggiest idea. Acrylic, like all polymers, can be made to have a wide range of physical properties. I have no idea the specs on this acrylic, and it probably wouldn't mean much to ...

Re: No Name ROV

derelicte, the optical acrylic dome arrived today. It was very well packaged with paper wrap, plastic bag, and 2 large sheets of bubblewrap, which was a good thing because the box was smashed all to hell. It's true what was promised, the dome is very sturdy and optically very "clean," with...

Re: No Name ROV

derilecte asked, "where did you get the clear dome?" Answer: http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/m1588p.html I have ordered this dome, and it has been shipped, but hasn't yet arrived. Maybe later today it will. Before I ordered it, I emailed them the following questions, and they answere...

Re: No Name ROV

AHarris, I appreciate your asking if I would mind you developing a similar design. I certainly do NOT mind. Please feel free. In general, even though you are very polite and thoughtful to ask, I discourage you asking such questions. If someone feels protective of their designs, they should not post ...

Re: No Name ROV

AHarris asks, "Are all the parts you [are] using "off the shelf" or are any of them being custom made?" Hmmm . . . Well, of course the entire thing is custom made by me. Some components, such as the motors, are off-the-shelf but modified by me, as discussed near the top of this p...

Re: No Name ROV

AHarris, thanks for the positive feedback. At this point I've probably spent more money on parts that I've since decided not to use than on parts I will use. I'm not sure how to avoid that. Ideas evolve. Looking at the basics: PVC pipe & fittings, batteries, motors, cameras, servos, Ethernet cab...

Re: No Name ROV

derelicte, thank you for your kind words. The 3D model was created in SketchUp, a FREE Cad program from Google. All of the images except the one with black background are screen shots taken in SketchUp. The rendering (first image) was made in Kerkythea, also a FREE program. Kerkythea has a SketchUp ...
