Re: Help with design
That might work if you run a wire down to the ROV to act as an antennae but you likely won't pass a signal through water very far particularly saltwater. I have a small radio controlled submarine and it lost signal in a saltwater fish tank at about 12". I think you could find a much cheaper wir...

Looks great, do you think you could share the file once you get it working like you want? I would like so modify it to fit my cordless screwdriver or is that what you are going for? I like the fact it has overlap which will help pickup thin objects like rope or wire.

Re: Affordable Syntactic Foam options or Macroballoon source
That sounds like the cheapest option at this point. Also I could mold and cast it then to make several spares.

Re: Props - LH or RH?
I put a LH on one side and RH on the other to reduce torque turning effects. Counter rotating props solve this.

Re: Arduino gamepad control via USB host shield- no PC requi
I used a laptop before and found it added too much complexity to the system reducing reliability and increasing setup time. Now everything is in two boxes and I only have one thing to plug into power and have lower power requirements. Look into augmented reality for HUD options. You could have the c...

Re: Arduino gamepad control via USB host shield- no PC requi
We tried this option but had issues with it. Perhaps it was the version of the board. I am now using a PS2 controller which plays nice with Arduino. If you get it to work let me know.

Affordable Syntactic Foam options or Macroballoon sources?
I thought this stuff called Last-A-Foam would work but it is only sold in full sheets 4x18x100" and that is over $1300. R-3325 is good for 1200' water depth. I need 1000' working depth. Any other options anyone knows about for small quantities? Another option I am looking into is making my own....

Nice setup! I look forward to seeing how you do the arm and the flip up joysticks. I hope to setup mine with one also if I ever ditch the PS2 controller.

Re: Clarity/brightness issues viewing and driving real time
It might be a combination of problems. The most common is too much light and not enough screen brightness. Try making a hood to shield the screen from the sun. Even on an overcast day there is too much light. The only way around it is to purchase a daylight viewable screen which costs much more.
