Personally if I can make almost everything myself, I will, unless it's cheaper to buy units, for example, electronics are cheap to build, but you need to buy the components in bulk, therefore it is cheaper to buy

Murky water reflects whatever you shine at it. However if you use an ir camera and an incandescent light, it's a good combo

An ir camera would probably be best, however if you can, a colour and IR camera with on board switcher would be much much better

I would, as long as you have about 10-15% compression, and your cap fits inside the cylinder with as little gap as possible, it should be fine

micro/macrobaloons work just fine Steve. those orings may extrude through the gap

They should work, however if it isn't the finish you were expecting then reject them!

I like the idea of the BR cable penetrators, however they look like bicycle brake cable adjusters to me!
