Re: Finally working on the Pan/Tilt

I would recommend a wide angle lens camera for navigation. In my experience, I just feel like I can't see anything with a normal field of view camera for navigation. Pan/tilt definitely helps alleviate that feeling, but do you really want to be moving the camera all of the time? Also, does your cont...

Re: DC current safety question

You should be fine. 12 Volts is a pretty safe voltage, all things considered. As far as I can tell, those car jump packs have sealed lead acid batteries in them, so you wouldn't have to worry about acid leaking into the pool if you accidentally dropped it in. That would probably be your safest bet j...

Re: Anyone tried a car backup camera

A backup camera would probably work fine. I believe I have seen this done before. I would like to mention that decent backup cameras will mirror the image (so it is oriented correctly when driving in reverse), so you would obviously want to find one that does not have this feature. Board cameras are...

Re: Waterproofing

I potted my first control system with wax, and later removed it to make some minor modifications. It did work alright, but I would only plan on removing the wax and changing something once. The melting point of the wax was pretty low, so I used the heat gun on its lower setting and didn't have any p...

Re: Driving a MOSFET

What voltage is your motor supply at? Do you have good common ground between the two supplies? Can you post a schematic? What happens if you hook the gate of the MOSFET up to the 5 Volt supply on the Uno? It kind of sounds like your MOSFET isn't turning on all of the way. If the MOSFET turns on when...

Re: Relay Amperage

Those relays are only single pole, so you would need 4 per thruster, instead of two double pole ones. They look like they would work otherwise, though. Shipping something from Alabama to UK/English Channel can't be cheap. Did you say that Rapidonline had reasonable shipping rates to where you live, ...

Re: My Meager Machine

Sounds reasonable enough to me. I don't know anything about RS-485, though, so I don't think my opinion counts for much! :) I just use RS-232 most of the time.

I'm confused though, Deakel said they were for converting the RS-485 to RS-232 for the Arduinos, but Arduinos need a TTL signal...?

Re: Relay Amperage

I clicked on "View full product range" on the website you posted, and found the 12 Volt version of the relay you posted. Here's a link: http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/DPDT-10a-Power-Relay-12v-Dc-60-1672 Unfortunately, it would appear you must order more than 100 relays at...
