Re: modular ROV concept

here is a schematic for the test cube face:

The o-ring groove is 0.712mm deep, and i'll be using a #042 o-ring.

I put three holes so that I could test weather just having four screws (one in each corner) would be sufficient, or if I needed eight (two in each corner).

Re: modular ROV concept

I just purchased a small bit of plastic. I'll be milling out one face of one cube with all the bolt holes and seal. This way I can test the waterproof-ness of the system. I'll post an update once I have the plastic!

Re: modular ROV concept

Wrong side was a bit poorly worded perhaps, since with the current design the hole will make it in to the water tight container anyways. If you put them on the inside, each of the bolts must be completely waterproof. If you put them on the outside and make a design where the holes never penetrate t...

Re: modular ROV concept

In the drawing there are grooves for o-rings, they were originally what I planned to use because i had them on hand already, I am getting a lot of mixed responses from people on which to use. Jaman42: I don't have the equipment or know-how to make molds or melt plastic to fill them, would that be a ...

Re: modular ROV concept

A gasket will likely be more simple to design...Gaskets will also have more contact area than a thin O-ring would which will probably produce a better seal under high pressure if you've clamped it in right. One alternative to having many complicated and failure prone watertight joints between cubes...

Re: modular ROV concept

As of now they will be joined by 8, m2 screws. Which is a better seal; a gasket or an o-ring?

Re: modular ROV concept

I like the idea of easy reshaping a rov to test different configurations, my only worry with this is keeping the water out. That is my main concern as well, only testing and time will tell. I should be getting my motors, escs, and other various electron parts in the next month or so so I'll be able...

Re: modular ROV concept

Hey guys, this will likely be kinda scattered because I've got a lot of little details to talk about. So i got the pictures here, it shows the basic layout of the cubes, as well as two potential configurations one being small and highly maneuverable for observation, the other being fast and slender ...

Re: modular ROV concept

sorry for the stupid link, I know you just want to look at pictures anyways

As soon as I can I'll reformat the pictures so I can post them directly into the thread.

modular ROV concept

Hey all, this is my concept for a completely modular system. I am building it in the form of an ROV for testing. Basically you have a cube shaped support, which different plates and other cubes can bolt onto. The different plates can be glass, metal, robot arms, cable tunnels ect. your imagination i...
