Re: My rov and first problem

Hi vinsub. I agree with Steve's comments. Also possibly that grade of material is not the best for machining. Looks a bit "cheesy". The groove shape looks O.K. If the edges are too sharp damage could be done to the o-ring during assembly. Polish the grooves a bit, and use lots of o-ring gr...

Re: If you look sideways, it's an ROV sorta

The local hardware store had a similar device on the shelf. I was in the swimming pool aisle, looking for a filter housing that could be adapted to submersible use, on my way to the PVC plumbing fittings aisle :) . Was tempting to take the thing out of the box and have a better look. Saw this on Eba...

Yes, the tether length (and what it is made from) is a very important factor in how you go from here.

Re: ROV Pressure Chamber

I think fryslan76 meant gas, like LPG or propane. Good advice re the water purging. Still a bit nerve wracking attacking an old gas bottle with the angle grinder though, no matter how many washes. Toffe, check out how these people do it: http://www.homebuiltrovs.com/rovforum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t...

Re: 1080p action camera output / tether requirement

Welcome rovdownunder. If you are planning on using the same cat5 cable for camera and control, say one pair for video signal and the others for control of motors, then make allowance for future addition of baluns top and bottom, even if you do not use them first off. Personally I would be using balu...

Re: My hull penetration idea.....

Hi Bindo. I think it will work great. What sort of oil or other fluid will you be using? I have a similar pressure-compensated arrangement (for now in the ROV archive) that was to use the "choc block" terminal strips, the idea being that no soldering was required. The bullet connectors are...

Re: Autopilot

ROVER3D, how the heading and depth hold depends on the user interface. For hardware user controls, yes, a button can be held or toggled on/off to lock to the present actual heading. The joystick can then move the ROV sideways instead of turning it. The depth variable can be incremented or decremente...

Re: Turnigy TrackStar 18A ESC

Thanks Bindo. Re the comms, there are 4 RS232-like serial ports on the Mega. These are hardware UARTS so do not affect or use the timers. A timer is however used by the SoftSerial library. Recently I was doing a project with a Uno and found that SoftSerial upset other functions. No need for SoftSeri...
