Re: On board battery
I use led-acid onboard batteries. Two 12-v to to exact. As for weight, not a problem. Infact, quite a benefit because I only needed to add 3 kg ballast weight. As for explosion potential, yes, it is a risk. Ideally, the hydrogen released from the half-cell reaction of the battery will be in an aqueo...

Re: Determining buoyancy
Two ways to get your sub neutrally buoyant: 1) put it in water, keep adding weights (without adding volume) until sub is just about to sink. Drag it underwater ~5ft and see if it rises or sinks. Add/subtract weight accordingly. And the more accurate way: 2) Calculate the buoyant force. For this you ...

Re: changing in volume vs changing in mass
I'm going to presume that all parts of your sub are solid, (PVC, Metal, etc), and that non of it will change shape significantly under high pressure. Because of this, the sub's volume is constant at any depth. Water's compressibility at depth is very very small, so much so that it is considered an i...

Waterproof Motors for robotic arm
So I'm guessing for most of us the mechanics of building the arm is not so much a problem as what motor to use, or how to seal a shaft. I would love some suggestions for waterproof motors, the only ones I found are about $150 apiece for a small DC motor. Does anyone have any good suggestions as far ...
