Re: Rov Reboot (3D Printed Rov)

Really cool project! It looks nice and streamlined. I especially like the camera setup, and the simplicity of using dive lights is a good idea.

Re: Stingray ROV

Yes, I was quite happy with the camera quality. The quality of the live feed is not quite as good as the still images, simply because the processing power of the pi is limited and therefore turning the quality up results in an awful latency. The live feed is still 720p though so not that bad, especi...

Re: Stingray ROV

Thanks! I'm really pleased with it, especially considering it's my first ROV (no doubt there will be more in the future!). I've done a quick test in the dark with it to test out the lighting, and it works well! I've had a few tip-offs of where there might be some interesting stuff to look at, includ...

Re: Stingray ROV

Update! I did my first successful open water dive today, no issues! I recorded a short video with a screen capture program. It's not the best quality because of the compression but you should get the idea: https://youtu.be/St3KkrMtBiI Ignore the date and time on the camera, it's wrong. The raspberry...

Re: Stingray ROV

Some additional info, for those who are interested: Here is a flow chart of all the systems in the ROV. The raspberry pi runs the "RPi Cam web interface" software. This hosts a webpage with the camera stream on it. It also allows for Pictures to be recorded. The program for controlling the...

Stingray ROV

Hi All, I have only really posted about my thruster design so far, so I think I will start a thread about my ROV itself! The end is in sight now, as I have finished all of the thrusters, pressure tested the whole thing in my nearest lake (living in the lake district is handy) and then installed the ...

Re: 100ft/30m underwater camera

From what I can see that should work, just bear in mind that you will need to use another rj45 - USB adapter on the laptop end, so it will be plugged into the USB port on the laptop, not the rj45 port. Otherwise there will be no 5v power supply to the camera. It looks like those rj45 adapters often ...

Re: 100ft/30m underwater camera

Hi, I haven't done this before, but it should be possible. You will have to use a cable with at least one twisted pair, for the data + and data - wires. If you don't use twisted pair, I would imagine that the bandwidth would be severely limited, or it might not connect at all. like you suggested, CA...

Re: Magnetically Coupled Thruster

With a bit more refinement, your design could definitely work well; I hope you get time to continue it someday. Of course, brushless thrusters work much better, but where's the fun in that? I wanted a challenge! I am also very good at making life difficult for myself! I doubt that your printer would...
