Re: A 3D printed, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hola! Back with a few updates. Things take time but the stuff is still going on! I progressed on the inner electronics assembly. I used a frame of metal rods, on which are threaded 3D-printed supports to hold the electronics. I'll ultimately add nuts to hold them. 20211019_222045.jpg I also tested a...

Re: A 3D printed, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hi, Well, thanks! The second video is almost exactly what I thought about, great! I bought these pipes connectors a few weeks ago: 20210705_201520.jpg My idea was to trap the cables in the left one with silicone/epoxy, glue the right one to a hole in the WTC and screw them together. So that I can di...

Re: A 3D printed, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hi, Yeah, I'm thinking about using some copper/nickel water pipes connectors. One filled with epoxy, holding the outside cables, screwed to another one through the pvc pipe. Meanwhile, 3D printing is going on... cura_shot.png I divided the hull in several sections to reduce risks and consequences of...

Re: A 3D printed, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hi! A few weeks have passed since my last post, and many things have changed this then! Not for the best at first, as I've had some disappointments with the original hull design that led me to revamp most of it. To the extent that I had to update this thread's name, because fiberglass & epoxy wo...

Re: A 3D printed+laminate, raspberry-brained ROV project

Small update there : After a few adjustments, I have been able to print the first parts of the hull without bad surprises. I used a 0.6 nozzle to speed up the print, but the joint section is a bit rounded. I might have to start again with a smaller nozzle... and be more patient ! (as I'm now confide...

Re: A 3D printed+laminate, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hi, Thanks for your thoughtful answers. Reversing the compressor airflow is an interesting idea, I'm not sure if this is possible to plug the hose to the air inlet on the one I have, I'll check. I've noticed a trend where people with a new 3D printer try and print Everything, rather than just print ...

Re: A 3D printed+laminate, raspberry-brained ROV project

Thanks. I hope it won't look like a swimming pool after the first dive  as the separation line between the hull components has a significant length. The split section is made up of two joins to reduce the risk of leak : hull-joint-section.png Bolts will be inserted in between at regular interva...

Re: A 3D printed+laminate, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hi,
Thanks! Yes indeed, it might be a good solution as well. It could even fill the stator with some kind of wax or mineral oil. It just won't be convenient to empty the water after the dive, but it should work anyway.

A 3D printed, raspberry-brained ROV project

Hello everyone, Greetings from France. As some reported virus still locks us there, I took advantage of the last few months to immerse myself into a project that had been haunting my mind for a while. I have indeed been sailing across the atlantic coast since my young age, but since I'm a better eng...
