Re: Camera over cat5

Um... there's alot more to this scenario than just 'wiring the data onto a cat5 cable'. The laptop camera workload was probably borne by the motherboard, and so it will be a pain trying to repurpose it for separate use. I'd suggest just using the low-light 5mp Raspberry Pi camera plugged into a Rasp...

Re: Jets With Valve Control

Whether you pump water to a jet or you move water with a thruster, you are still gonna pull power. You can 'simplify' the thruster controls by using a Pixhawk running Ardusub, with Q-Ground-Control on a PC at the surface. This will act as an autopilot, allowing you to move a joystick on the surface,...

Re: Temperature, Gps, compass

For a long-range, high bandwidth ethernet link to the surface, i recently purchased 2 pairs of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L6X94XS That should give me the same connection as using BlueRobotics Fathom X boards, but at a cost of $52, instead of $180. ------------------------------------...

Re: My "MINIRAY" Rov.

Yeah, my boat will be a custom-built 28' pontoon boat, two rows of plastic 55gal drums down each side, boat expandable sideways to 14', cabin roof raises/lowers to make the boat 7' tall on the road to 11' tall (8' ceiling) on the water, small kitchenette and bathroom, 14' square control room with 2 ...

Re: Pressurize acrylic cylinder dinamically

I put 4 used freon tanks on top of my original ROV for buoyancy, and eventually pressurized them to 200psi, figuring at depth that would help to keep them from imploding. But to do this inside the WTC, you have to consider electronic components such as electrolytic capacitors may not survive much pr...

Re: Introduction AUV project and already finished ROVs

Well, if you are using the Fathom X boards for comms, 26 gauge speaker wire wound into 3-strand yellow poly rope will work as a tether. Use a drill to twist the speaker wire first, as twisted wire rejects EMI. 3-D printing is a very useful technology, but don't get fixated on it. Why print a tube th...

Re: 12v Battery enclosure

I like both. Batteries in the ROV to power everything, and to prevent crashing the electronics/ autopilot when the motors draw high amps when thrusting. Power down the tether to recharge batteries for long dives. On Bob's comment of "LiPo's are lighter too", i prefer heavy batteries, heavi...
