Re: Scanning underwater

Sounds like a good plan. K.I.S! :D
I bet a potted IP camera would give great results.
I've stuck a go-pro on the end of a long rod before now, and the results are amazing, even in cloudy water because you can get up close to your subject.

Re: Scanning underwater

HC-SR04 work well in air and are dirt cheap! I use these a lot for range-finding up to about 4M with resolution of a few mm. Fitted to a servo they make a very cool sweeping sonar for robotics (reducing the need for several devices). This does NOT give a view of the swept area, the device must stop,...

Re: New comer

WOW! I assume that they are electric subs? What thickness hull do you have for 3000', is it double skinned? Does it have a separate capsule for the crew or is it a one-piece craft? Sorry about all the questions! How do you manage buoyancy? For my uROV, to conserve thruster power, I was thinking that...

Re: Using a Load Cell as a Depth Sensor

Did you get your depth gauge working? This looks like an interesting place to start for a uROV project, so I've been looking at the devices suggested above. G1/4 Pressure Transducer Sensor 0-10MPa for Oil Fuel Diesel Gas Water Air 10Mpk equates to about 1000M of depth, and the output voltage ranges ...

Hello there!

A quick hello and a little about me. I have a 'hankering' to build a uROV or possibly a surface 'mapper' (gps/depth). The problems fascinate me. I live in the UK near the Severn estuary, so with raging tides and seawater like soup, (you can't see your feet at ankle depth), I'll probably look toward ...

Re: Depth Gage for the electronically challenged

You could use some string if you really don't want to go down the electronic path  You might want to look at Arduino, WeMos etc. They are very cheap and powerful. Personally I'd recommend Assembler, but the Arduino IDE is very quick to pick up - lots of samples and tutorials. Well worth the inv...

Re: Starting 3D CAD? Give Autodesk 123D Design a try!

One of the nice things about 360 is the ease of sharing work between a group. Collaboration is really easy. It also easy to import hardware drawings from mcMaster-Carr, nuts, bolts, pipes, etc. nearly everything in the catalogue has a CAD file. This frees you up from the mundane stuff. For a free ap...
