Re: The Basic Rov Control System Wiring Manual (Rev. 1)
Is there a problem with voltage drop or current being carried by the CAT5 with this set up? Is there a battery for the thrusters on the ROV itself, and the only thing going down the CAT5 is control inputs to the relays?

Re: Lionfish Murder Bot [LMB] Project...
Man, I sure am busy. If I have time to spend four hours messing with building an ROV, I've got time to get some work done and help people. Still, sometimes my brain is fried and I'm no good at work anyway, so I may as well do something ELSE instead. That's when I can get some work done. I'm working ...

Re: How well does IR do in murky water?
And maybe this.... if it can see through fog maybe it can see through soupy water. http://www.drsinfrared.com/Products/Tamarisk640.aspx Looks like it costs in the low kilobucks. But if it makes the difference between seeing inches and seeing several feet it might be worth it, depending on the applic...

Build vs Buy: Controls. [LMB]
So OpenROV has a "dev kit" that has the electronics.

That plus some enclosures and cameras plus some thrusters like the ones from Bluerobotics ought to get me going?

How well does IR do in murky water?
I seem to recall reading somewhere that the sediment and such that causes such low visibility (such as what we have in our near-coastal waters here in northeast Florida) may not cause as much decrease in visibility in the IR spectrum. Can anybody confirm? ANybody have an strategies for dealing with ...

Build vs Buy? [LMB]
Ok, so I have a full machine shop at my disposal. Hooray! I've got a frame that's currently a cube 2 feet on a side. Oversized I'm sure, but this is Ver 0.1a and I'm just learning. Are commercial off the shelf thrusters crazy more expensive than what you can build out of bilge pumps? If it's only th...

Lionfish Murder Bot [LMB] Project...
Next door to my office is a makerspace where I have rented a cubicle. The guys who founded the makerspace seem to know embedded systems and controls... maybe I can get help from them. They seem to like my idea, and it certainly is eyecatching and interesting. Since the makerspace is in a dying downt...

Re: Hello from Jacksonville, Florida! [LMB]
Thanks! Nope, no regulations whatsoever. No seasons, no bag limits, not even a fishing license required. They are supposedly very tasty eating, and there is talk of trying to establish a commercial fishery for lionfish. Basicly eat the problem away. :) I do have a fising license, though, so if I see...

Hello from Jacksonville, Florida! [LMB]
LMBframe.jpg LMB stands for Lionfish Murder Bot. That's what I am going to try to build. Lionfish are beautiful creatures that belong in the Pacific. On the East Coast of the United States, however, they are a recent invader and are playing hell with our reef ecosystems and fisheries. Some fish nee...
