Easiest way to control ROV over Cat5 (Arduino or RasPi?)

I am planning on building my ROV with the main control systems and power onboard. Originally, I had planned on running some form of web server on the Arduino or Raspberry Pi and accessing it from my computer. If I do that, I would have to remove a few wires to run the analog video signal to the surf...

Ethernet or Serial communication? Or none at all?

I'm debating a few ways to control my ROV. I will be including an Arduino Uno in the robot itself. 1) I send commands from my computer over Ethernet and use an Ethernet shield on the Arduino to take that input and turn it into PWM commands for the speed controllers 2) Use the serial monitor to send ...

Filling a 3D printed cavity with foam

I 3D printed a hollow float for my ROV, but I would like to fill it with foam instead of leaving it full of air to handle deeper working depths. I've debated using spray foam, but from what I've heard, it absorbs a lot of water. That shouldn't be a problem if my float is waterproof, but if there is ...

Senior Project ROV

I have a few weeks to work on this project and I'm not even sure I can get it done in time, but I'm on my way. The original goal was to make this able to dive 100m but due to the budget and time restrictions, this is kinda out of the question now. I decided to 3D print parts of the robot to make it ...

Running brushless underwater with battery on a budget

I am doing an engineering project for school where I may order parts and create a budget. I am making a lot of the ROV with materials we have on hand at school, but some things like motors I need to order on my own. I need a source for cheap parts. Also, I am located in Sweden. So US shipping doesn'...

How much do glass microspheres cost?

I am looking to build an ROV on a budget as a school challenge, and target depth is around 250m. Therefore, I'm assuming syntactic foam might be a necessity for buoyancy and the cheapest option would probably be mixing spheres in epoxy resin. I am not planning on making this robot very big- pocket s...

Re: Affordable Syntactic Foam options or Macroballoon source

Oops, I'm a little late to the party... Oh well! Anyways, although it isn't syntactic foam, it is apparently made by Last-a-Foam which is what you mentioned earlier. When coated it apparently is good down to 600'. Now I just need to figure out how to coat it! https://www.bluerobotics.com/store/buoya...
