Re: Add data logging to your ROV
Our latest student logger uses only a ProMini & RTC module, and makes it easy to swap sensor modules via a couple of mini breadboards. https://thecavepearlproject.org/2023/12/01/the-e360-a-classroom-data-logger-for-science/ They run independent of your main power supply, and falcon tubes are goo...

Re: How to mount sensors on PVC housings
After waterproofing you need some way to test the stuff right? We needed a way to test our little falcon tube loggers and household water filter housings are a good solution as the domestic water pressure range of 40-80psi overlaps nicely with sport diving depths. The internal clearance of that 4x10...

How to mount sensors on PVC housings
Posted a general overview of how to make your electronics more waterproof including updates to the PVC housing system we developed. The DIY water proof connectors, and the way we mount pressure sensors under mineral oil might be of particular interest. https://thecavepearlproject.org/2023/03/17/wate...

Re: Article on Arduino-based underwater data loggers publish
Just a quick note that we've updated the basic classroom logger to compartmentalize the soldering steps: https://thecavepearlproject.org/2020/10/22/pro-mini-classroom-datalogger-2020-update/ and adding dual OLED screens to that base configuration is pretty easy: https://thecavepearlproject.org/2020/...

Re: A Simple DIY Underwater Connector System
The latest update to our underwater housings made from PVC. Fewer parts & much easier to assemble. https://thecavepearlproject.org/2020/04/08/diy-data-logger-housing-from-pvc-parts-2020-update/ The basic idea would be easy to reproduce with flange ring if you don't have access to the formufit pa...

Re: Getting extra ADC resolution with Dithering & Oversampli
Lately I've been noodling around with another method to read thermistors using the Input Capture Unit on pin D8. https://thecavepearlproject.org/2019/03/25/using-arduinos-input-capture-unit-for-high-resolution-sensor-readings/ This time-based approach does not use the ADC at all, delivers better res...

Re: Getting extra ADC resolution with Dithering & Oversampli
Ok, so my primary reason for the oversampling was to get high-rez readings from a thermistor to monitor ambient temp with our datalogger. Turns out you can use a Pro Mini (or any other Arduino with an Atmel processor) to measure temperature using only the mcu. https://thecavepearlproject.org/2019/02...

Re: Article on Arduino-based underwater data loggers publish
Three years of classroom experience with the 2016 datalogger motivated a redesign to accommodate a wider range of student projects wwhile keeping within the time constraints of a lab schedule. The rugged PVC housing from the older build has been replaced with an inexpensive pre-made box suitable for...

Re: A Simple DIY Underwater Connector System
I finally completed the set of logger build tutorials on Youtube, to go with the screw terminal logger posted in 2017. Includes more detail on how I make those underwater connectors:

Re: Article on Arduino-based underwater data loggers publish
Thanks fryslan! I've posted a few more photos in an Imgur album https://imgur.com/a/Vz0ZH We've had good luck with loctite e30cl epoxy withstanding long marine exposures, and the critters don't seem to burrow into it too much (or into the PVC - though it's much softer) But the stuff does flex under ...
