Question about power converter cooling
Hello all, I have decided to use a power generator 230V from the surface. This is because the cables will be smaller and cheaper, and because I want to have ample headlights without worrying wether it will deplete the batteries quickly. This will require a power converter from 230V AC to DC, inside ...

Re: Lights inside the hull, or outside ?
Aha I get it. So its outside, then. Thanks. I have seen your thread about the ROV in your avatar, a piece of art really. Are your LEDs in contact with the water, or inside ? (it is filled with oil as far as I remember). If they are in contact with the water (outside the hull), some link where you bo...

Lights inside the hull, or outside ?
Hello, Thanks to your guys' valuable help, I am building an acrylic (plexiglass) ROV. Build thread soon. I want the lights to operate at 200 meters depth, and illuminate 30-50 feet from the hull. (acrylic does not last that deep, but I plan to later build the same ROV but with a steel hull) The basi...

Re: Plexiglass it is, but sheet metal perhaps better ?
It's easier to make it of a steel tube(and cheaper) than a steel sheet. You have to cut it in lenght, bend it to a perfect circle and weld it.I don't know if worths the time and money when you you can find one easily!I know a few shops at my hometown that they sell steel or aluminium tubes and cut th...

Plexiglass it is, but sheet metal perhaps better ?
I have almost finalized a plexiglass hull design. The basic idea is a tube with o-ring lids, like the sketch below. A very similar hull could be made from steel sheet metal. What do you think ? The way I see it that, at least here in Greece, you can find a workshop every other street, that can make ...

Really helpful, thanks.
The rustcrawler is exactly what I want but unfotunately too expensive,
however the ebay ikelite approach has some interesting housings and at good prices:

Ok, I get you!
I am not planning to open the ROV during missions. Only when I get back home.
So this is it, then. Thanks a lot.

An interesting o-ring installation. But is it correct ?
Hello, this guy made an acrylic (plexiglass) casiing for his camera, which can withstand good pressures. http://www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/personal/pdh/housing/MKIII-build/index.html However, I believe that this is not the proper way to use an o-ring, because it should reside inside a groove. What he di...

Can I buy a hull, good for 100m depth ? Where from ?
Hello, I have spent the last weeks researching about ROVs. It seems that I could do with controlling the motors via joysticks (Im a programmer and have already made a demo with an Arduino). I can also do away with the thrusters, either using brushless motors or buying the T-100's. My problem is that...

They look good, thats for sure!
What pressure do you expect them to withstand ?
