Re: NATALUS - ROV
To be honest with you I ditched this project. I am a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't finish it but it started to feel more and more like a burden, I learnt a lot so it's not all wasted. I always felt a bit limited by the tether and that it was going to be a bit of a hassle to bring everythi...

Re: NATALUS - ROV
Hi guys!
We have been living in our new house for one and a half year now and we are finally getting settled in. Yesterday I started to clean up the workshop and went and retrieved all my ROV parts from storage. Today I plan on finishing cleaning up in there and continue with the project, FINALLY!

Re: NATALUS - ROV
Not sure if anyone is following my slow progress here, in case there are I just wanted to let you know that my project is on hold atm in favor of building a house for me and my family. Off course I included a small 9m² workshop where I can work on stuff like this. I am really looking forward to havi...

Re: NATALUS - ROV
My first try with the internal electronics didn't end very well. Everything was working but I got some disturbance in a couple of wires and it got really messy so I decided to redo it from scratch using a couple of breadboards to keep things more organised. Here's the mess! 20160728_172537.jpg I als...

Re: Prevent explosion, battery compartments, Lipo batteries
Yesterday I unintentionally turned my lipo into a welder for a split second. I was charging one of my packs to use for testing the electronics. Instead of disconnecting the battery connectors I did the silly mistake of disconnecting the plugs from the charger first leaving two hot wires dangling. Fo...

Re: How well do RJ 45 IP68 waterproof connectors work for RO
One of the biggest problem as I see it is if you get a rip in the outer jacket of the cable, then water will be pouring in. Cat5 cables seems to be a popular choice and the outer jacket isn't very strong. I would say that the cheapest epoxi you could find would do a better job keeping the water out ...

Re: NATALUS - ROV
Now I am done casting all the hull penetrators, I had to do some of them more than once because I thought it was that much fun, or was it because I rushed it and didn't made sure there was a good connection on all the wires and that nothing was short circuiting, never mind it was one or the other. I...

Re: NATALUS - ROV
Finally I got some time to make some more progress on the ROV. I'm working on the wiring at the moment, I got it all laid out and I am almost finished preparing the wires to be able to cast the hull penetrators with epoxy. I have waterproofed a optical fiber connection that I was a bit worried about...
