Re: Using bike innertubes to control buoyancy

Hi Dave, Using bike inner tubes to get the neutral buoyancy is a good idea IF you can adjust the amount of air you have inside during your dive. The air will compress as you get deeper. For example, if you start with 1 liter air ind the tube at surface then the volume will be compressed to 1/2 liter...

Really nice! What camera did you use, did you get some good under water footage?

I had the same problem. Now I'm rebuilding my rov with two vertical thrusters. One right and one left propeller.

Re: ArduROV new footage from lake in Germany

Hello ArduROV! I like your ROV and the video you share! I got a pair of questions that I hope You can/will answer. I use a GoPro Hero 3+ behind a dome like you do. But I can't get the camera to focus. I know that there was a similar problem with GoPros older housings (they used to have a small dome ...

Movie recommendation: Ghosts of the Abyss

I saw the movie ''Ghosts of the Abyss" by James Cameron yesterday. They examine the wreckage from Titacic using two submersibles and two cool ROVs. Most exciting is, the recovery work done, when one of ROVs gets trapped inside the wreckage ... The film was shot in 2001 and came out in 2003. I h...

Re: What would be the coolest job?

Hi Dace, I had the great privilege to accompany the Harbour Branch Oceanic Institutes large research vessel on a trip to the Bahamas some years ago. It was really awesome, they had both ROVs and a Submersible. Got to go down to 1000 m depth in the sub, it was of course a great experience. The engine...

Re: Focus problem with GoPro camera behind Dome.

I did a harbor dive and on the small monitor I use it looked ok. But on a bigger screen you can see that it is out of focus. GoPro has fixed focus that works well behind a flat port. I have tried to correct the focus with different lenses. +10 diopter and more gives focus in a very short distance. I...
