I just wanted to share a picture.
Hello all! I've been a member here for a while and have been fortunate enough be able to turn a love of all things robotic into a career. This is one evening at work for me. I've been in the commercial ROV business for about 14 years, have helped my kid build a small one for entertainment purposes a...

Re: Deep dives
On another forum someone mentioned not filling the electronics with oil for various reasons (I'd rather not). There may be reasons I am unaware of, but I got to go to Northrop Grumman and they showed us how they work with AUVS(Some seriously impressive stuff too). They actually do fill their electr...

Re: What would be the coolest job?
Not to sound like a jerk, but I have the best job! I work with ROVs on a daily basis, have learned to build, operate, troubleshoot and repair everything from the electronics and hydraulics to the mechanical side! I have had the opportunity to help end the Macondo oil spill, cut up several downed pla...

Re: Building a Magnetic Coupled Thruster.
Outstanding jorb! When (if) I ever get around to building my own, I may go with this setup. Quick question: What depth is your housing rated to? You could go much deeper if you have your thruster in an oil filled housing. We use a dialectric oil on our motors with a positive compensation system (ver...

Re: Comercial tethers
Ayy suggestions for a cable for full-doublex RS 485 and video transmission and as neutral as possible? :D Power is onboard. Not off the top of my head. I've seen some other threads regarding this. We use multi-mode fibers for our telemetry stream with stepped surface power to 3 phase motors and ste...

Re: Comercial tethers
Are you running surface power/telemetry or is your sub powered subsea? Are you running straight DC or A/C->D/C converted? Depending on your power/telemetry requirements, you may not need a commercial tether. If you are just looking for data, are you running straight RS232? Have you considered integr...

Good luck friend! 300m is a heck of a target out of the box, but with patience and research I'm sure you'll do fine! If there's anything I can do to help, feel free to ask!

Sorry I've been gone so long!
For those that don't know me, I am a supervisor for a commercial ROV company and am here mainly to answer technical questions. I'll answer all I can without giving away any proprietary information. If you have questions about commercial ROV's, the industry, technical issues.... whatever.... I'll be ...

Re: Launching to say hello!
Welcome to the forum... I am kicking around the idea of building my own, but just as a mechanics car is never fixed, I keep procrastinating. They always say if you turn a hobby into a job you'll grow to hate it but I don't know if it works both ways  -Steve :sting: Oh, I absolutely LERV my job...
