Re: Pulling Cat5e inside hollow braided floating yellow rope

I used a ten foot long piece of 1/4 inch rod instead of a crochet needle, it still took a long time and room to do the job.

Re: RC Controller for Hard Wired ROV

I think the DSC output is PPM? But check first. There are a couple of PPM libraries for Arduino that will directly decode the signal so that you can use the servo library to control your machine from there. If you wish to have a wireless set up, then I would suggest buy a RC receiver that has PPM ou...

Re: What do you use for Monitors or Video Diplays?

There are cheap, sub $50 "goggles" (foam box with screen) at hobby king, otherwise you need a 1000 nit- cd/m2 display or better, the panasonic tough books had some pretty impressive screens but are still expensive even second hand. Fat sharks are expensive, I wouldn't take them to the beac...

Re: Water inside connector

I had a similar setup, in salt water i found the connector on the battery side would corrode in a matter of minutes if it was left out in the air with sea water on it. If I immediately washed it with fresh water it was ok, the setup I used was a relay controlled by a reed switch and magnet that woul...

Re: TigerShark ROV for exploring Puget Sound

I have one of Nicks' original bottom side boards that I can check but I'm not sure what your asking? There is a serial select that simply turns off the Rx or Tx (can't remember which) so that you can load a new sketch onto the arduino. I have attached a few pictures that I got from here or Nicks web...

Re: Difference between right and left hand propellers ?

Good question! Especially with regards to the up and down influence, I've read with boats it affects the left and right, but with smaller boats it is so subtle that it is not a major factor, I don't know much about ships and larger boats. I guess if you can balance things out then why not but at the...

Re: Lipo in parallel / fuses and charging

I can understand why you are asking the question, but after my experience of the compartment containing a chemical reaction resulting in an explosion!! I would redesign the ROV or just go to the trouble of taking the batteries out and charging them in a fire safe location, may catch fire but should ...

Re: video helmet

:D That reminds me of my welding helmet attempt :D I have bought a hobby king set of these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__53706__Quanum_DIY_FPV_Goggle_Set_with_Monitor_KIT_.html They seem OK but I need to scan the screen to see info (osd) in the corners of the view, but definitely better...
