Re: Hello from Illinois (soon back to Arkansas)
Your design appears well thought out and doable. Good luck on scrounging for parts. My ROV project is about half done, but progressing slowly because I keep thinking of better ways to do things, such as using magnetic coupling for gripper motors. I have acquired various components from Blue Robotics...

Re: Greetings from the US
Welcome from Montana. I have been building an ROV for the past year, but am stuck on how to control buoyancy. I became impatient and bought a ThorRobotics Underwater Drone 110ROV Underwater Robot Camera With Mechanical arm and Ground Station, is now being shipped, supposed to arrive in 2 weeks. It w...

Re: Direct Servo Control (DSC) with RC Tx/Rx
I use 3 JR radios mounted on a board. # 1 to control the thrusters, dive planes and buoyancy chamber. #2 to control the caterpillar tractor drive motors when on the lakebed (or seabed). #3 to operate the six axis robotic grab arm if I see something I want to pick up. JR radios and receivers are chea...

Re: Hello Hello
I'm using the older JR rc controllers with the DSC (direct servo control) jack in the back. It sends the radio signal through the tether wire to the receiver in the ROV. This was designed so that an rc operator could test his servos at the flying field without causing an active pilot to crash. Now t...

Re: Long term ROV project
Thanks I bought the arduino novice kit that came with various components and am experimenting. It's like learning another language. I used to program in Fortran, Machine, BASIC, but this is another creature. Right now, I am making the motor pods water proof with O rings and silicone rubber glands fo...

Long term ROV project
My ROV project is about half done and sure is fun: 1. Basic external frame is 8” (20 cm) square, 2 foot (60 cm) long, made from 1/2” (13 mm) pvc pipe. Cheap, easy to work with, and doesn’t corrode. Frame has many holes and is thus ‘wet’ when diving. Not glued, but secured with stainless cotter pins ...

Re: Stopped lurking, started designing
I have a PVC schedule 80 section of pipe for anyone who is willing to pay shipping UPS ground. It is 168 mm OD (6 1/2 inches), 600 mm long (2 feet), and has wall thickness of 12 mm (1/2 inch). One end is polished to accommodate O ring seals for a camera window. Should be able to handle some decent d...

Re: Stopped lurking, started designing
What are your approximate dimensions? Length, hull thickness, etc. How deep to you hope to go?
