Re: Tether cable

Sounds like things are moving along for you. I'm not doing any ROV projects as such at the moment but similar technology keeps cropping up for other jobs.

Re: Tether cable

That tether and reel setup is exactly what I have used recently. Un-plug to roll-out and in. Years ago though I made a camera coax reel (using garden hose reel) and made a slip ring/rotary joint out of a 1/4" microphone plug and socket. Worked well, with no noise showing in the picture. For now...

Re: Tether cable

Pleased to be of help. The forum has gone very quiet in recent months. There is a lot of information here from past postings, just a case of using the search tool and some time going through having a critical look at some of the discussions. Regarding the cat5, if you cannot get stranded then solid ...

Re: Tether cable

Yes had success with brushless motors, and slip rings (signal level - low current) in oil. I do not know how well relay contacts would go in oil. Personally I would not try it, but I can see you are wanting to stay with what is familiar, rather than use transistors etc. The wax could be the go provi...

Re: Tether cable

Haha. I nearly added "I guess this is surplus cable, cheap?". Dunno how good the picture would be given losses over a length of thin coax. Maybe you can source some cheap CCTV cable with decent coax and some control wires in the same jacket?

Re: Tether cable

Welcome Ozzyboy. No never considered SCART. Having the coaxial cables and signal wires could be useful but the cable with it's relatively large diameter would create too much drag. There are better control options available. Video baluns and cat5 cable will give video and 6 wires spare for control.

Re: Does this look right to you?

Be sure to use video baluns to minimize noise pick up from the 485 lines. I have used this compass https://www.pololu.com/product/2127 and the library that I think is available from that page.

Re: Does this look right to you?

Saw you posted about a week ago and may have moved on in design by now. Anyway, there is no video connection shown, or were you hoping to get video through the Arduino? If so, the Uno lacks the processing power to do video, and the RS485 connection does not have the speed required for video. The Uno...

Re: New Blue Robotics Tether Ethernet Interface

Thanks for posting. No more hacking home plugs! The modules themselves are available - yet to read the datasheet
