Re: Acrylic/aluminum hull problems

I was thinking the easiest thing to do would be to re-machine the aluminum caps with a taller center piece, or deeper o-ring grooves. Is there any advantage to the double o-ring system other than redundancy?

Also, do you think plain threaded rod will work? I'm mostly worried about corrosion.

Re: Acrylic/aluminum hull problems

Sounds good, I tightened it today until it sounded like the ABS was cracking, but I might try a bit more.

--edit--

I've stripped out the threads on my aluminum threaded rod, any good places to get threaded stainless rod?

Also, has anyone tried silicon grease on their o-rings to help with sealing?

Re: Acrylic/aluminum hull problems

Approximately straight? I haven't done anything to it. I bought it off McMaster Carr and just left it. Definitely has saw marks on the ends, no idea the depth, but I can feel them. I want to put it in a lathe and face it, but I also don't want to shatter it (if it isn't evident, I have no idea how t...

I'm adding a CAD drawing that might help clarify what how the tube end works

Re: My older Nventivity kit ROV.

I'm not an expert, but I'd think that a simple motor replacement would fix your movement problem. My thought would be that the tangled line caused the motor to draw to many amps and burn out.

Good luck with the rebuild!

Acrylic/aluminum hull problems

Hi all, I've been working on building a hull for my electronics. This is my 3rd iteration, and the one I'm most confident about. I'm working on the primary housing --housing my camera, batteries, and Arduino-- and so far it looked like it was going pretty well. It's primarily made out of a 3" (...

Re: BNC to USB

It seems to be working pretty well for me. Although I'm concerned about the construction of the device itself. It's just been kind of sitting on my desk, getting pushed around a little, and it looks like the male usb port is getting a bit bent. I'll have to test it make sure it's still okay.

Re: Outrider Disassembly Question

Nope! If you'll be fine if you disassemble your outrunner motors. Just take out the setscrews around the shaft, and pull the two halves apart. People do this all the time to replace the shaft, or change which end of the motor the shafts protrudes through.

Re: Test setup for outrunner motor

In all honesty, you probably could, though I'd be wary. My motors are rated to that same 13 amps, but I've measured it up to at least 20. So my advice would be to wait until you know the max draw of your system in order to protect your power supply. Note* I don't know a lot about power supplies, so ...
