Do you know how many amps the bilge blowers are pulling?

stuffing box and prop size
I'm looking at using 12volt, 1000rpm brushed gear motors and am wondering about the pros and cons of running the prop shaft through a stuffing box, similiar to this, http://letsmakerobots.com/node/19254 Also, since this is a low rpm motor, I should be using a bigger prop. I would like to keep the am...

How much did they draw in your tests?

Re: Brushless motors oil filled
I have a mill and lathe if you'd like I can help you out. I design and prototype pneumatic valves, but have no experience programming. Maybe we can help each other?

Re: Depth of Bilge Blower Thrusters
Roventhusiast, I think you're refering to bilge pumps. I talking about bilge blowers, they already have a fan and can be used as is.

Re: Depth of Bilge Blower Thrusters
Bilge blowers seem like a good idea, why aren't more people using them, do they draw too much power? Does anyone know how reliable they are?

oil filled brushed motors
I'm designing thrusters for my rov and i'm gonna be using brushed motors for now, either bilge pumps or I'll use regular motors in my own housing. Does anyone have an idea of the life expectancy of a brushed motor in an oil filled pressure compensated housing? I'd like to use brushless motors but pr...

AC voltage down tether
So here's my plan for provding power to my ROV. There will be a large 12 volt marine battery topside. Power will then be converted to 120VAC with this unit, http://www.alliedelec.com/search/productdetail.aspx?SKU=70101521#tab=specs, sent down 250' of 18 gauge wire, then converted back to 12VDC with ...

Re: Vex Tx Rx system
So since the VEX doesn't have channel mixing, I would NOT be able to have my horizontal thrusters spin in opposite directions with one stick movement, correct? Do you know of a Tx/Rx system that has channel mixing and has the ability to communicate via to wires rather than rf? Thanks!

Re: Vex Tx Rx system
Thanks, that does help, I didn't want to buy the parts and then find out later that I couldn't make it work. I've never used brushless motors before (or built anything with r/c for that matter) and wasn't sure how they worked. I did pick the vex system specifically because of the ability to plug the...
