Re: Fibre optic tether

Also forgot to mention, the epoxy is heat cure. I don't want one of those specialized ovens for hundreds of dollars, so I'm probably just using a hair dryer for a few minutes. If that doesn't work, I'm going to toss the connectors in the oven on preheat for a few minutes. There are too many unnecces...

Re: Fibre optic tether

What type of connector do you think you will go with? Be careful with the SM output of media converter. Laser not visible and some are strong enough to damage pupil. I'm using LC connectors. Really had no reason for it except it seems to be the newest standard, and there seems to be more available ...

Re: Fibre optic tether

BIG UPDATE: Got my 1000 feet of Single Mode 9/125 HERE It is tremendously light, I am truly amazed. Now to the connectors, I am using LC connectors that will be placed on using the stripping, epoxy, and polishing method . I am piecing together my own custom toolkit, because those kits that they sell...

Re: on board metal detector

I don't know much about metal detectors, but they don't read High or Low right? They give an "analog" output, so, if one can tap in the sensor circuit, they can read the analog output with a micro controller, and find what the standard bias is from noise and materials, and ignore it. But, ...

Re: Cad programs?

Autodesk has free 3D CAD in their program Inventor. AutoCad is nothing compared to Inventor. I used it at school, it's similiar to SolidWorks for anyone who has used that. I cannot, however, get it to download on my computer; pretty sure it's user error though, I think I'm missing an update.

Re: Recapturing Energy from Props?

NP. There are 12V mini hydro-gens out there, but they are designed for boat houses(which, after looking at some of the specs for them, would be a genius investment if you have a boat house) and are in the 1000's of dollars. Is there just a ridiculous markup in the generator market? Probably, similar...

Re: Recapturing Energy from Props?

So after some consideration, a battery that weighs slightly less would yield 5 times the power of the best case scenario. So unless I have enough battery life to run for hours so the generator could charge up one battery, it's not "worth it's weight"

Recapturing Energy from Props?

So I'm not talking about infinite energy here... I'm not that crazy  But what if we place a micro hydro turbine generator "down stream" from the propeller to recapture the energy? Something similiar to this. Yes, there is some thrust sacrificed. Propellers work on Newton's Third Law, ...

Wow, I love it. You should seriously patent that. What's the maximum depth you have hit?

Re: Longest possible Serial connection to Aruino

Sorry about the delay. Unfortunately I do not have any footage, and I haven't gotten it in the water yet. It was good enough to make out what things are, but as for being good quality, well it was only 144p at I think 15 Fps. 15 Fps was fine with me, but I would try to do full screen on 144p, and wh...
