Re: Help on first rov control system
You may want to design your own H-Bridge with MOSFET transistors. That will probably help you learn the most, and it is more cost effective.

Re: ROV idea help
For the first year I was on a MATE team we just hacked an arm toy and sealed the motor with grease. All it took was a hacksaw and a drill

Re: ROV idea help
I speak from experience when I say that making a manipulator is a challenge. Our mate team has one person in charge of designing a manipulator. The complexity of the manipulator depends upon the tools you have. If you have a 3d printer or mill it will make it much easier.

Re: 120V Ac ?
In theory that would work well, as many commercial rovs use upwards of 480 volts ac. This works well in the commercial market on a 5 million machine but on a home built system that much voltage sounds like a terrible idea. It is just to easy to slice a tether of debris and 120 vac is not something t...

Re: Homemade power board
OK, I need to ask a question and this may be where I get a good answer. I am using an UNO for control in my ROV. I have some ESC's, but I am having a little trouble with them. Also I am using brushed motors. I really like the idea of using FET's. It seems I can do whatever with the UNO and since it...

Re: Arduino to use or not to use?
As a member of a MATE ROV team we used lab view and arduino extensively as they interface well and it is simple to make a great GUI.

Re: watertight cat5 cable?
Don't rely on cat 5 cable to be watertight. The jacket is super easy to make a small cut in. It wont take much of a hole for a leak.

Seabotix Thruster
Has anyone used these Seabotix thrusters. They seem to be good thrusters. Any idea on how much they cost?
