Re: Best system for a first time rov builder?
Mikes subworks and other rc sub sites carry really cool failsafe circuits that operate a servo or in my case a ballast pump in case of signal loss. Less than 15 bucks and they don't take an extra channel either, a must have.

Re: simple swich for more channel functions?
I read somewhere that simply making the antenna longer was a no no. Not sure why, somthing about the wavelength corresponding to antenna length. Remember what pre 2.4ghz antennas looked like? Fencing swords. Thanks for the input but I think I am going to scratch the extra functions, building my firs...

Re: up voltage in tethers to reduce losses.
Seems like you have a good plan for power. Are you concerned about signal losses in that length? Also will the high voltage ac in the umbilical interfere with your signal? Consider using coax or some other rf shielded wire. With your power system and optical comms you might be able to go a lot deepe...

Re: simple swich for more channel functions?
Fair point. But I am using a spectrum dx6 and the bouy is going to be carrying the satilite receiver which is not a feature found on most systems. You just made me think of an idea! Couldent you power all your servos onboard with a battery and just run the servo signal wires to a bouy and conect the...

Re: Adjustable ballast system?
If your using compressed air at the surface why not use a valve or the psi regulator or the on off switch on the compressor to control depth? 30 feet equals one atmosphere about 15 psi. So you could raise your rig from 200 feet down with 100 psi in theory. You could put a pump onboard and fill your ...

Re: Filling Thrusters with oil
You can have issues with brushed motors in oil because pieces of brush end up in the oil and increase its conductivity. Equalizing the pressure is easily accomplished by using a rubber plug on the housing somewhere. You can use corn oil but it apparently gets sticky when exposed to air. Use it if yo...

Re: flashlight/torch option
Wow post a link to that flashlight. Sounds like a high end light which means it probably has o rings and a watertight bezel. Fill that sucker with dielectric grease and if the light is in the water it'll stay plenty cool.

Re: white led's vs IR led's
Depends on weather you are mounting your camera outside your vehicle or not. If your light source is within the same housing as your camera camera you get glare from the inside of the housing. This is why it is common to mount lights outside your vehicle. You will get reflection with ir as well. Led...

Re: Instrument Display
Couldent you attach a small rheostat to a mechanical pressure gauge ya know at the needle. Then program your chip to translate the ohms into fathoms or leages or feet or whatever. Will a rheostat have a consistent enough rate of change in resistance to be used as a instrument? I don't know. Somethin...
