A pressure transmitter is also my pick. Altough when i researched it it seems that salt water reacts differently then sweet. Normally 1bar = 10 meter (love the european measurements) but in salt water it's different (won't be a differance of meters, just centimeters... but still)

A sonar works on the principle of sound waves. Sound travels trough air differantly then through water. So even if the sonar is strong enough you'll still need to calibrate it. And sound also travels different through salt- and fresh (sweet) water. So calibrating it in the pool for use in a river/se...

unfortunaly that wont be efficient. Water itself has a higher resistance then disired. It would be much more efficient to run an extra wire for ground down to the rov. As for the multible wires to the surface, those where the first controls for rov's. You must be aware that doing so you must take in...
