Howdy Chad,
With Galveston on your doorstep you should be able to have a lot of fun with ROVs. I lived in Houston for 8 years, welcome!

Re: Fibre optic tether
You can think of multimode fibers as a wider pipe and a single mode fiber as a narrower pipe (in very simple terms :)) Multimode fibers are more tolerant to misalignment through connections (more surface area on their faces), whereas singlemode fibers can transfer information faster (a bit counter i...

Re: Protecting a sonar circuit board at 3000 ft.
Depending on what's on the PCB you may be able to make it pressure tolerant, put it in a thin walled oil filled box, compensate it and away you go .... Martin That certainly is an attractive solution. How do you determine if the various components can survive routine service at 1700 psi? These boar...

Re: H-bridge
If you want to control speed you'll need something that generates PWM signals. http://www.nathandumont.com/node/249 Which normally involves a microcontroller. http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/AppNotes/00893a.pdf I'm a fan of Microchip, but lots of other different microcontrollers, such as the A...

I've seen it done with an excel spreadsheet and a few formulas.

Looks quite similar to this one, which sells, so it must be a good concept ....

Re: My new BLOG
Thank you, distributed processing (smarts) really does make a lot of sense, because as you add smart things to the design they bring processing power and capability along with them, instead of draining the resources of a central processing entity. I now have a stable thruster design which I'm very h...

Re: In good times and in bad times...
Hi Triton, What type of batteries are you using? The reason I ask is if you use lithium polymer you could oil fill you box/tube they're housed in to make it do deeper. I don't know your design in any detail but if the relays are in the same box you could also drill holes in the relay housing and let...
