Re: fan blades as thruster propellers?
The pumps are 500gph. Amazingly, the center of the 6" fan blades that I bought were exactly the same size of the impeller that the motor cartridges came with, so fitting the props was extremely easy. But if I were to buy "traditional RC boat props", I wouldn't have the faintest idea h...

Re: Ethernet wiring for a new ROV
I'm right there with you on that front...already have a drybox built onto the frame! At the moment I think it might be a bit small, but replacing it will be relatively easy. Because I'm using PVC tubes for the frame, the thruster wires are running inside the tubes to a watertight connector. I've dri...

Re: Two camera questions
The still-untested design I am working with at the moment has a total of five cameras: A GoPro as the main camera, a Flip on the underside to see the bottom, a Contour pointed left, an Audiovox pointed right, and my navcam is a CCTV with a video tap to the surface. Sure, it might be overkill, but wh...

Re: Ethernet wiring for a new ROV
Thanks for the answers! First of all, yes, this will be a rather short tether....50 feet is indeed what I was considering. I'm using 500gph bilge pump cartridges as my thrusters. In response to what you wrote, I'm thinking that even if I used one ethernet line per thruster (plus one for the video), ...

fan blades as thruster propellers?
I'm using 6" fan blades as propellers on my bilge pump thrusters on my current design. Haven't tried this out yet, nor have I seen anyone try it. Any ideas or opinions? Could this work, or am I about to create the world's first Formula One ROV?

Ethernet wiring for a new ROV
Hello everyone. Haven't been on here in a while, but I'm back now, and I'm looking for a little help on something. In my first ROV project, my tether contained DC cables for four thrusters and one ethernet cable for video signal and camera power. Needless to say, this tether was thick and not very f...
