Re: My ROV
You don’t need to balance Lipos on every charge. Balancing is required when you pull high discharges sporadically from a pack i.e. multicopters. I don’t think that our application require that high current draw, not even near what a Lipo can handle in terms of discharge. My guess is that you had one...

Re: My attempt part 2
Yeah, feel sorry for Kenl, but that was not one of the reasons I am moving out (now it is though). Either way I believe moving from Lipos to li-ions for our applications is a good idea. I don’t think Lipos are that unsafe if handled correctly. I was following safety discussions and tests conducted o...

Re: My attempt part 2
I decided to gradually move all batteries outside the main hull. One (of several) reasons is that I find it too complicated to open the hull, connect, turn on, close before a dive. Also I would like to be able to change packs while on the water. IMG_20150211_131212091_HDR.jpg Made a small 5A pack to...

My attempt part 2
I have been away for too long time. While I was waiting for the winter to pass I started playing around with FPV and before I know it I was dragged into building multi rotors for professional AP. Now I am back (seriously..:) to finish this old project. The first attempt http://www.homebuiltrovs.com/...

Re: My attempt
A final test before the lake. Did not include lights yet (still working on them).
Changes include new skids, tether cut down to 80m, floats added (temporary and ugly), video feed, control box.

Re: Some light
Hi, Think CREE is company abbreviation for “Creative Resource & Energy Efficiency” not sure its them though. I decided not to use any of the lights on the chart but to build my own, based on Cree. Currently the top LED is the CREE XM-L diode (first from left) which can be driven at 3A producing ...

Re: Camera Recomendations
I received the GoPro2 yesterday and have been playing with it a bit. So far I am impressed. The lens is now a true 2.8 aperture which gives good video in low light. I also made a cool video of the city last night with the built in time-lapse function. The FOV that has been discussed earlier I have n...

Re: pressure ballast system
Hi and welcome, Check this link below, it describes general options. I as a diver myself have been thinking on a gas ballast system using a regulator and a pony bottle. I saw sometime ago a ROV disign that utilized this kind of ballast setup and I liked it. If I understood it correct, the regulator ...

Why??? This new and cheap technology makes magnetic couplers, lip-seals, stuffing boxes totally obsolete.derelicte wrote: I wonder if they would sell the thrusters separately...

Some light
Dreadful winter in Europe is preventing me to do a proper ROV test in lake, so I am a bit bored atm. and playing with light. While I am waiting for CREE diodes to arrive (I will try to drive them on 2A for approx 2000 lumens :o ) I collected some lights I found in house and did a basic test. Don’t k...
